the language, attitude, knowledge, music and culture of the Appalachian Mountain folks flows out like the old Gauley river herself. Wild and Vengeful

"Your freedom ends where my freedom begins" is a quote my grandmother used to educate folks about hate and its nasty brother fear. The 3 Sisters of the family also had all these little sayings for us to remember life lessons. It was kind of like having a almanac for how to treat others but they were more than just sayings. I have learned to plow, plant, harvest and store by the "signs". Give, take, barrow and lend with respect. Love, understand, care and surrender with compassion.

I hope you can take the information on this web site and use it to enrich your lives whether you're remembering how to or for just a moment visiting with the heritage of folks of the Monongahela forest.

In 2012 I was among 7000 other miner's who lost their jobs due to the down turn in steam coal market. With no job opportunities at home I left my family for the road. The oil field put money in our pockets and food on the table but by the 3 year I became home sick. what little time i had had at the hotels I would think of how I could come home. I missed my girls, dog, gardening, hunting, fishing and myself. Well, I bid them a fair well with my finger and now I'm home. no I don't have deep pockets and I still use a one hole shit'er but I've got a hold of my boot straps and I reckon I've got gumption. So enjoy, ask and share. Thanks
