I'm still kicking

There isn't anything I can tell you that you haven't already heard. I ain't interesting in the least in fact I'm as common as an old shoe, but I have old knowledge and I surround myself with successful people. Those people have skill and old fashioned intellect.

When I was a brat in 1982 my cousin and me were next door at Frank and Melba's house visiting. My cousin decided to touch the beast. The beast was a ringer washer and as far as I knew could eat everything. I didn't know what to do so I paniced. Pulling on her arm to no avail, screaming and kicking the beast.  Finally Melba simply pushed up a leaver and the day was saved and with exception for some permanent burn scars and my cousin who is still upset with me all was perfect. LOL

Ringer washers do a damn fine job as far as cleaning but do tend to wear out your back when ringing out wet clothes. Then you've got to drain out the wash water and fill the tub with rinse water, rinse for 30 minutes, start the ringer again, hang them on the line. I mean wow, It's time consuming and back breaking work, but your clothes are cleaner, smell better in many ways, and washed cheaper. Rinse water can always be recycled for wash water, extremely soiled clothes can be washed as long as needed, oh and let's not forget there's an agitator that really rolls and scrubs your britches on other garments. Yes that's right the hand rubbing of material against material with detergents between them is the same action as agitating. Carol and I purchased a washer this past spring. It's the new and improved they said, uses less water to save money they said. My ass. A pair of coveralls went through a wash and rinse cycle and they was still dry spots. That in my opinion is not saving money. Now yes it is true that these new machines spin clothing out a hell of a lot better than any old arm eating monster ringer washer could and that does cut the amount of time clothes spend in the dryer or on the clothes line. The old clothes line or the bird feeder hanger as it's known today. Would you believe there is not only a right and wrong way to hang clothes but there are also things you hang out and unmentionables you don't. No one wants to look out the window and see their clean Sunday dress laying on the ground gathering grass stains nor does anyone want to see your granny thongs blowing in the breeze!  Folding a small portion of the clothing material over the line reduces stress on the clothe pins and offers more area to the wind and sun to dry. Now notice I didn't say anything about heat. The sunny summer time heat speeds up the drying time but there's not all that much heat in the winter. Salt can be added to you rinse water during cold weather so that garments can dry without freezing and yes once the temperature drops so low well I guess you'll have to hang them in house. It would be a lie for me to tell you we only use a old ringer washer. In fact the only time we use it is when the new and improved fail due to timing boards or the plastic pump wears out which happens about every 2 years. Carol and I have had a come to Jesus understanding, her house her rules. She grew up with that ringer wash and knows all the tricks of the trade. She has hung clothes in the snow and spent her Saturday's ringing out my coveralls and work pants. It's a part of our past that's being lie about. What's the real cost of technology? What's is wasted time? Be sure to ask yourself these questions tonight while your family is watching million dollar TV stars and I'm still kicking the beast
